Senator Patrick Leahy visits the Guilford Vermont Country Store |

On Monday, Oct. 25, at 9:15 A.M., Senator Patrick Leahy made his public announcement about a federal grant to assist in the rehabilitation work to be done to the Guilford Country Store. Sen. Leahy announced the grant under the federal revitalization initiative that the Preservation Trust of Vermont is helping him implement. In a brief ceremony in the store's parking lot,Sen. Leahy joined Eric Morse, President of the store's new owners, the Friends Of Algiers Village Inc. (FOAVI); Ann Lawless, a Board Member of the Preservation Trust; Ann Rider, Guilford Select person and a Director of the FOAVI and many others.
FOAVI's officers and Board members were there to answer questions, as well as the Architect for the work: Jim Williams of the Architectural firm, Williams and Frehsee. The FOAVI has placed a historic easement on the 1817 Broad Brook House which contains the store. The rehabilitation of the store area represents the first phase of the project and is expected to take several months.
